Should the Porsche 991 GT3 Be PDK-Only?

An almost audible gasp from the automotive world was heard when Porsche announced – unapologetically – that the newly revealed 991 GT3 will come equipped with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) only. It will be the first time ever in the GT3’s history that a manual gearbox will not be offered. Porsche Unveils Newest Iteration Of 911 GT3 Cup

Porsche has revealed the first 911 race car based on the current 991 platform. Known officially as the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, it was unveiled during a special “Night Of Champions” celebratory event in Weissach Germany. Long heralded as one of the most successful line of race cars in motorsports, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup first arrived on the scene in 1998 and has sold over 2,395 units during its production run. Porsche 918 Prototype Smashes Previous Nurburgring Lap Time

Following a slew of tests on the famed Nurburgring race track in Nuremberg Germany, Porsche revealed Wednesday that a 918 prototype was able to lap all 13 miles of the iconic track in a swift 7 minutes 14 seconds. This new lap time is not only a significant improvement over the car’s prior lap time of 7 minutes 22 seconds (which was achieved during prior Nurburgring testing back in July), but it also crushes the time set by Porsche’s old Carrera GT by a whopping 18 seconds.  The new lap time shows just how much progress the 918 has made during its development period.
