When the Focus ST was first unveiled, many wondered whether the pint-sized Fiesta hatchback would also have a high performance ST sibling. In a statement released earlier this week, Ford officially confirmed that the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST will be available for buyers here in the United States and will officially debut at the 2012 Los Angles Motor Show later this week alongside its redesigned mainstream siblings.
First Drive: 2013 Ford Explorer Sport
The last time Ford affixed a “SPORT” badge to its Explorer sport-utility vehicle, it was to distinguish the two-door model from the four-door. Some two decades after that vehicle’s launch, for 2013, the range-topping Explorer has been fitted with a hi-po, EcoBoost V-6. Would it be sufficient oomph to allow the Explorer to compete with the current crop of full-size SUVs?
Ford’s 2015 F-150 Will Shed 700 Pounds Thanks To Aluminum Body
Ford is planning to meet new, tougher CAFE standards for its fleet by updating its next-generation F-150 pickup line with a body made largely of aluminum, according to an article in today’s Wall Street Journal. The paper based its story on unnamed Ford executives familiar with the company’s plans. This is far bigger news than Audi moving to aluminum construction in its A8 several years ago.
Long Term Test: F-150 FX4 Ecoboost Update 2
It seems like just yesterday that our long term Ford F-150 Ecoboost FX4 SuperCrew hit the 5000 mile mark. Here we are with a truck that has rolled past the 10,000 mile mark. Since our last update, we have had our first service, been through one warranty repair and have seen fuel economy fall off from the first report. We are still looking to demo some products for the truck and are interested in your questions and comments. Read on for all the news and use the comments to let us know what you would like to see. Review: 2012 Ford Edge EcoBoost Limited
Edge? Why Edge? Why not “Corner,” or “Side,” or “Top”? Because we’re not talking about that kind of edge. Let’s not get all literal. This Edge is all about cutting edge, edginess, and the eponymous member of the band U2: Coolness, in a word. The Ford Edge is so-called because it wants us to see it as representing the cutting edge of automotive fashion. And in a way it does, as a member of that trendy species, the crossover SUV, and now, in EcoBoost guise, as belonging to that even trendier subspecies, the fuel-sipping turbo-4, hopeful successor to the V6 and V8 guzzlers of yore, available in the new Explorer, too, and in more members of the Ford family and relatives in due course. The manufacturer claims the engine attains the giddy heights of 30 miles per gallon on the highway; EPA estimates concur. Pretty good for an SUV-type vehicle. Is it true? Well, I devoted my attention to this and other urgent questions over the week during which a handsome metallic-green Edge EcoBoost Limited was my daily driver.
Ford Unveils Fiesta ST Five-Door Concept Ahead of LA Show
By: Carl Malek
Earlier this week, Ford Motor company finally took the wraps off the Fiesta ST five-door concept ahead of its official debut at the 2011 LA Auto show. This concept is Ford’s second iteration of the Fiesta ST concept. The car first made its debut in 3-door form at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show earlier this year. Other than the addition of the two additional doors, the Fiesta ST five-door is more or less identical to the three-door version when it comes to exterior styling which includes the use of a large trapezoidal shaped grille, a Fiesta ST exclusive body-kit, 17 inch alloy wheels, and a twin exhaust system. Ford also mentions that the styling for both concepts was inspired by the Fiesta RS WRC Rally car, which is a star out in the world rally circuit.
Long Term Test Ford F-150 EcoBoost Update 1
By Kevin Gordon
I would be remiss if I did not apologize to all of the readers of Autosavant for the delay in getting this first update to you. Since, we purchased the truck at the end of June, we have added 5,000 miles to it. Since the miles are being added so quickly, we plan to provide updates at 5,000 mile intervals going forward. As most of the questions we have received about the truck focus on fuel economy that will be first after the break. If you’re interested in more frequent updates on the life and times of the truck, please follow @autosavantkg on twitter.
Long Term Test F-150 Purchase Process: The Best Way To Buy a Car
By Kevin Gordon
I constantly find myself cringing when I am at a car dealership and I witness the following happen: Kenny “The Sap” Consumer walks into his local Honda dealership and is greeted by “slippery” Sam the salesman. Kenny says he is interested in a Honda Pilot, one “with the DVD system”. Sam the salesmen says that he thinks he might have one or two of those available, but immediately begins to explain how popular they are. Both people walk off to make a copy of Kenny’s license and Kenny the poor sap has taken his first steps towards paying thousands more than he needs to when purchasing a car.
Four Cylinders Take Largest Share of US Market
By Chris Haak
It’s not the sixties anymore, kids. Though certainly there are still high-horsepower holdouts, the days of the V8 and even V6 (or inline six)-powered family sedan are numbered.
The latest data from auto industry research firm IHS Automotive shows that four cylinder engines made up 43 percent of all new-vehicle registrations during the first half of 2011.
Land Rover Officially Prices 2012 Range Rover Evoque
By Carl Malek
Land Rover has unveiled the official pricing on its all new 2012 Range Rover Evoque. The Evoque which is expected to begin arriving at Land Rover dealers later this year, will have prices starting at $43,995 for the five door model, and $44,995 for the Evoque coupe. This pricing may seem a bit steep, but prospective Evoque customers will be getting a lot of car for their dollar.
