Jaguar has taken the veil of secrecy off of the latest member of its high performance “R” lineup, the 2014 Jaguar XJR sedan. It will make its official public debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show next week.
The exterior styling of the 2014 Jaguar XJR has been tweaked by Jaguar stylists, and features several model exclusive touches including new alloy wheels, a redesigned front bumper that gives the XJR a bolder more sinister face, model exclusive badging, and other light exterior enhancements to make the model standout from its lesser XJ siblings when viewed side by side.
Performance for the 2014 Jaguar XJR comes from the same supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine that also see’s duty in the XFR-S and XKR-S models. Good for a tire shredding 550 horsepower (a 32 horse gain over the XJ SuperSport), the potent engine along with the XJ’s lightweight aluminum body structure should allow the big cat to claw its way to 60 mph in less than five seconds. As is the case with other R models, Jaguar engineers have also upgraded the XJ’s suspension, steering system, and brakes for track duty, which should please drivers looking for stronger braking and handling characteristics.
“The new XJR epitomizes the three pillars of technology, performance and contemporary design which the Jaguar brand stands for in the twenty-first century, while delivering new levels of dynamic ability in a luxury saloon.” stated Adrian Hallmark Global Brand Director for Jaguar.
Andy Goss President for Jaguar Land Rover North America elaborated further stating, “It is clear that performance will continue to lie at the heart and soul of the brand. To that end, the growing R performance lineup offers our customers the truly elevated dynamics and design, but in a Jaguar luxury package. The Jaguar XJR is a British performance machine that delivers emotionally and dynamically on the road and on the track.” Goss also addressed the brand’s plans for the rest of its lineup, saying “Jaguar will expand its R performance line-up with the global debut of the XJR at the 2013 New York International Automobile Show. The new high-performance model, the dynamic flagship of the XJ series, will join the expanding Jaguar line-up on display that includes All-Wheel Drive sedans and the F-Type sports car, which goes on sale this summer.”
Look for the 2014 Jaguar XJR to make its official debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show next week with deliveries expected to begin later this year. Jaguar has not released any pricing information for the XJR, nor has it released photos of its interior. But look for that and other technical details to slowly be revealed closer to the vehicle’s official launch.
