Lexus Officially Unveils Redesigned 2014 Lexus IS

Lexus has officially taken the wraps off the 2014 Lexus IS F Sport, which showcases a bold and radical update for the IS that successfully builds upon the themes that defined the current generation model and also sharpens its focus in the marketplace as it looks to take on competitors such as the Mercedes C -Class, Cadillac, ATS, and BMW 3 Series.

While the model featured here is the top of the line F Sport model, the basic elements of the new exterior styling will trickle their way down to lesser IS models and should please buyers looking for more personality from their IS purchase. A new front fascia design features a new twin spindle grille that adds a dash of aggression to the car versus the rather plain face that adorns the current IS. The headlight design on the 2014 IS retains many of the cues and features seen on the current generation model, with the only major change being reworked LED daytime running lamps that are mounted separately from the headlight assembly. The rear styling of the car has also been reworked and is highlighted by an all new tail light design which stretches to the rear wheels and comes equipped with new L shaped LED accents.

The interior of the 2014 IS has also been heavily reworked and it appears to draw some inspiration from the recently axed LFA supercar, especially in the design of the instrument cluster. Lexus claims that the overall steering position of the IS has been re-imagined by Lexus engineers, and is now much more performance oriented than before, with a lowered steering and seat angle as well as an increase in steering wheel adjustment. Lexus was also quick to announce that the 2014 IS will arrive with standard subscription-free real-time traffic and weather information, made possible thanks to an agreement between the company and iBiguity Digital Corporation the creators of modern HD radio. F Sport models stand out from their lesser siblings by offering several model-exclusive details such as black stitching, unique interior hues, perforated leather accents, and special “3D effect” metal trim.

Expect more details such as fuel economy and pricing to be revealed closer to the vehicle’s formal debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
