Koenigsegg Edition – Meatball This, Bugatti!

From the land of IKEA, Saabs, and meatballs comes… a bad-ass? That’s correct; Sweden’s Koenigsegg Edition is here in all of its high-powered, carbon-fibre glory at the Geneva Auto Show. The Edition marks the culmination of 14 years of work.
The Edition’s twin supercharged 4.8 liter powerhouse weighs a mere 198 kg (436 lbs). The in-house developed motor is E85 and E100 compatible, allowing its passengers to rocket in environmental friendliness. It will run on ethanol, regular gasoline, or a combination thereof. Horsepower ratings vary with fuel type. If regular fuel is used, the motor will produce a hefty 888 hp; if ethanol is burning, the engine will generate a Lamborghini and Veyron killing 1018 hp.
Little steering wheel movement makes Koenigseggs easy to race or cruise in; this is caused by a stiff chassis and a compliant suspension. Low drag coefficients provide optimal performance for this 1,280 kg (2,821 lbs) machine on the race track. Its detachable rear wing reduces drag from 0.36 to 0.32. The Edition’s roof is removable and is can be stored in the front luggage compartment.
The Edition sports a redesigned center console and a “Koenigsegg Chronocluster”, a chronograph instrument cluster where all needles point from one spot. Christian von Koenigsegg described it as a Swiss watch, which makes reading gauges from oil pressure to speed easy for the driver.
Koenigsegg has built 62 cars since 2002, but production will dramatically increase this year with 25 cars scheduled. The company began selling cars in the United States last November; since then, five cars have found homes in America.
If you want to bring that number to double digits, you’ll have to wait in line. Koenigsegg says it is sold out for the next year and a half. Prices start at €1.5 million ($2.2 million), and all models come with a five-year warranty.
